The Loire châteaux under 45 minutes away
Chambord, Cheverny, Blois, Chenonceau, Beauval. And cycle paths that start next door.
The house sits in the middle of the châteaux. What follows is done by car, and a good part of it by bike.
The châteaux and the visits
Cheverny
The château of Cheverny is the closest. It is the one Hergé drew as Marlinspike Hall in Tintin. The village has shops and three restaurants, under nine minutes by car.
Chambord
The largest of the Loire châteaux, with its double-helix staircase and its park. In autumn people come to hear the stags belling.
Blois and the Maison de la Magie
Blois has its royal château and, straight across from it, the Maison de la Magie, a museum of magic devoted to Robert-Houdin. Children easily spend two hours there.
Beauval Zoo
One of the largest zoos in Europe. Allow a whole day.
Chenonceau, Chaumont and Villandry
Chenonceau spans the river Cher. Chaumont-sur-Loire holds its garden festival every summer. Villandry has the most carefully drawn gardens in the region. All are under forty-five minutes away. You can also paddle down the Cher by canoe.

By bike from the house
We are in the middle of a network of cycle paths, under ten minutes away. Several châteaux can be reached by bike, and bikes can be delivered to the house.
Around the house
Under nine minutes by car: the shops of Cour-Cheverny, three restaurants, and the retail park at Vineuil.
Under ten minutes: the Cheverny golf course, Les Sources de Cheverny for the spa, riding stables, and the châteaux of Villesavin and Beauregard.
Around us there are plenty of organic farms, markets, and brocantes, the French second-hand fairs, at weekends.
